Durrants Farm, Maidstone Road, Paddock Wood, Tonbridge, Kent, TN12 6QN
Founded in 1968, Steward Transport is the UK’s premier block haulage company. Based in Kent, we offer nationwide coverage and even travel overseas transporting large quantities of building materials on behalf of construction companies and individuals. We work week-round and pride ourselves on being entirely dedicated to our clients, whatever type of road haulage solution they require.
Our massive premises in Tonbridge allow us to go above and beyond the duties of a typical block haulage company, and we can store any quantity of building materials on your behalf. Clients typically choose us to store bricks, blocks, stone, tiles and similar construction materials. We’re more than happy to store materials on either a short-term or long-term basis; past clients have had materials stored with us for as long as a decade!
We hold Public Liability Insurance to the tune of £10m. All our staff are DCPC trained, and our crane drivers ALLMI qualified. On top of this, all Steward Transport drivers have completed Safe Urban Driver training. This makes us one of the best qualified road haulage specialists operating nationally. In fact, many leading companies within the construction industry recognise us as the UK’s top block and brick haulage company – a reputation we work tirelessly to preserve.

Steward Transport was first established by John Steward as a one-vehicle brick haulage operation working out of Borough Green. Less than a decade later, in the mid 70’s, the company purchased a number of tippers to expand its services to local quarries and tarmac plants. After Ryarsh Brick, then a big name in the building materials industry, selected Steward Transport as its road haulage company of choice, Steward Transport was able to purchase a “Hiab” crane.
This new innovation helped unload bricks on and off our vehicles, a process which up until then had been done by hand. The late 70’s and 80’s were a fantastic time for Steward Transport, which took on contracts for Ibstock Brick, as well as a number of builders’ merchants and brick factories. Following this period of rapid growth, the company moved to its current location at Paddock Wood, Kent, and acquired R H Lacey and Sons, a local road haulage company specialising in the transportation of fruit.
The fruit transportation and block haulage aspects of the business ran side-by-side until the mid 90’s, at which point it was decided Steward Transport would focus its attention purely upon the transportation and storage of building materials. This brings us up to date. John continues to lead the company, supported by his sons Nigel and Jamie, and old friend and former driver “Buster” Bowen, who looks after routing and scheduling.
With over 50 years’ experience serving as the country’s trusted road haulage experts, Steward Transport continues to build on its legacy by bringing clients fast, efficient and reliable services at highly competitive prices.
We are proud of our FORS Silver accreditation and can supply vehicles to CLOCS and Crossrail specification.
