Steward Transport is a member of the Freight Transport Association and an accredited FORS Gold company. We hold employer and public liability insurance at respective values of £10m each, and insurance for goods in transit to a value of £100,000. All staff are DCPC trained and our crane drivers are ALLMI qualified.
On top of this, all Steward Transport drivers have completed Safe Urban Driver training. This makes us one of the best qualified block and brick haulage specialists to operate in London, Kent, Essex, Surrey and nationwide.

Steward Transport first started out as a one-vehicle brick haulage company, working out of Borough Green, under the management of John Steward. Less than a decade later, in the mid-1970s, the company purchased a fleet of tippers to expand its services to local quarries and tarmac plants.
After Ryarsh Brick, one of the biggest names in the construction industry at the time, selected Steward Transport as its road haulage company of choice, we purchased a “Hiab” crane.
We used this innovative piece of equipment to load and unload bricks onto or from our vehicles – a process which, up until then, we did by hand. The late 1970s and 1980s were a fantastic time for Steward Transport, and we took on contracts for Ibstock Brick, builder’s merchants and brick factories.
Following this period of growth, the company moved to its current location at Paddock Wood and acquired R.H. Lacey and Sons, a local road haulage company specialising in the transportation of fruit.
The fruit transportation and block haulage aspects of the business ran side-by-side until the mid-1990s when we decided Steward Transport would focus its attention on the haulage of bricks and blocks, becoming a dedicated brick haulage company.
John and his sons, Nigel and Jamie, have 100 years of experience between them and continue leading the company. Former drivers, Gary “Elvis” Furnell and Colin Buss, look after routing and scheduling. Together, our team has more than 200 years of collective experience. We are now one of the foremost names for road haulage services in London, Kent, Essex, Surrey and all locations across the country.
