Steward Transport is a leading haulage company based in Paddock Wood, Kent.
Founded in 1968 by John Steward, Steward Transport started life as a simple brick haulage company operating out of Borough Green, Kent.
Equipped with just a single van, Steward quickly grew the business over the subsequent decade, leading him to purchase a fleet of tipper vehicles. This newly minted fleet allowed the business to expand its haulage services across a wider area, beginning with local quarries and tarmac plants.
As the business continued to grow, we were chosen as the road haulage provider of Ryarsh Brick, one of the foremost brick manufacturers in the UK. The partnership led to our decision to purchase an innovative loading equipment – the HIAB crane.
We used the HIAB crane to load and unload bricks to and from vehicles, a process which we had been doing manually. Using the HIAB crane significantly streamlined our processes, helping the company cement itself as one of the premier road haulage companies in the UK.
By the late 1970s and 1980s, Steward Transport was taking on contracts from Ibstock Brick, the largest brick manufacturer in the UK, along with various builder’s merchants and brick factories throughout the country.
Following our exceptional period of growth, we relocated to our current premises in Paddock Wood, Kent, while purchasing R.H. Lacey and Sons, a local road haulage company specialising in fruit transportation.
Our fruit and brick haulage services worked in tandem until the mid-1990s, when Steward Transport opted to focus entirely on brick and block haulage, cementing our status as a leading brick haulage company.
Today, Steward Transport remains a family-owned business run by John and his sons, Nigel and Jamie. We are also proud to see former drivers Gary 'Elvis' Furness and Colin Buss rise through the company ranks, where they now oversee routing and scheduling.
